The current owners of Melwel Lodge have submitted an application to rezone that property from its current commercial recreational status to a waterfront residential designation. The application also requests consent to sever the existing single property into eight individual parcels; provide an easement for access and drainage; reduce ordinarily required front-yard setbacks; permit multiple dwellings; and reduce ordinarily required lake shore frontage on the newly created lots. This change would likely result in the construction of new roads and septic systems.

The Municipality of Huron Shores recently issued public notice of the application and has scheduled a special public meeting on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. to hear community feedback. The special public meeting will be accessible in-person or by Zoom video conference (please register in advance).

Further information about the application and details regarding the proposed changes are available here:

You can also direct questions by email to the BBLA board or directly to municipal clerk Natashia Roberts. The BBLA board will participate in the special public meeting on October 9. We encourage BBLA members to review details about these potential zoning changes and to consider participating in the meeting.
